Introduction

London Business School is committed to providing our community and visitors with websites (sites) and services that respect their privacy. This privacy statement applies to all London Business School sites and services. It should be read in conjunction with the School's data protection policy which defines the principles that the School adheres to in meeting its data management obligations under UK law. This statement only applies to those sites and services directly managed by London Business School. Reference or links may be made to external sites but the School accepts no responsibility for their management and recommends that you read and take note of any terms and conditions applicable to these sites.

Please note that our sites and services may use session cookies, which are deleted from your computer when you close your browser. No personal information is collected or stored within these session cookies. See the section 'Cookies' for an explanation of cookies and information on how to control them.

What information do we collect?

Besides information about the School our sites and services contain a number of online forms that allow you to enquire about programmes, register for events or download brochures, and donate and pay online via SecureTrading our payment service provider. Our sites and services therefore collect a range of information. Much of this is automatic and anonymous such as: Requested URL (Uniform Resource Locator), IP (Internet Protocol) address (this may or may not identify a specific computer) and Software (browser / operating system) used to access a page. We will only collect personally identifiable information when we have specifically received your consent to do so. All personal data will be managed in accordance with our obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of text information that is sent by an organisation to your computer and stored on the hard drive to allow that organisation to recognise the user. Two types of cookies exist - session cookies, which are temporary cookies that remain in the cookie file of your browser until you leave the site, and persistent cookies, which remain in the cookie file of your browser for much longer (though how long will depend on the lifetime of the specific cookie). All modern browsers allow you to refuse or selectively refuse cookies. You can reject cookies but this may mean that some areas of the website may not work as intended or as you expect.

London Business School sites and services do not set persistent cookies. Only session cookies may be set. Session cookies may be used in the following ways:

  • To help us recognise you as a unique visitor during your visit so that consecutive views of webpages can be recognised as part of the same visit to the website by the same person.
  • To compile anonymous, aggregated statistics that allow us to understand how users use our site and to help us improve the structure of our website. We cannot identify you personally in this way.

The School website uses cookies to track usage however cookies are a functional requirement of Portal and will prevent you from using Portal if they are rejected.

What do we do with the information we collect?

Automatically collected data will only be used to measure the effectiveness of our website and plan for new developments. This data is processed anonymously. Personal information will be used to provide the information or service you have requested. We may additionally advise you of similar products and services provided by the School.

Security

The School is committed to protecting your data from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction and against accidental loss or destruction. To meet these obligations we have implemented a number of technical, physical and administrative solutions and procedures. These are periodically reviewed to ensure they remain effective and meet current best practice.

While the School's Portal is protected by SSL (secure socket layer) technology we cannot guarantee the security of personal information, in an email or an online form, whilst it is being transmitted to us across the Internet.

When do we share information?

The School does not rent, lease or sell your personal information to third parties. However there may be occasions when we share data with third parties to perform specific services. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to the School and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your data.

We may also need to disclose your information if required to do so by law.
